I needed a smile today (major issues with my big guy's school placement ... long story for a different forum).

Rylin is adorable, precious and so sweet! But I agree with a previous poster - your family is beautiful - not just in appearances (but truly, every single one of you is beautiful/err, handsome on your part, lol) but you can tell you all truly enjoy being around each other and love each other very very much. It's not something you see in young families anymore, and it's nice to see that it still exists.

Looks like Rylin definitely has her Dada under her spell, and that's the way it should be! :) Glad you all had a wonderful halloween!

You know, I had a moment when I was walking into the house with her. We went trick or treating with my sister and nephew tonight. (My nephew, Aubin)

...

When we left, I took Ry home while Tara ran to the store for a few things.

I got home and slung my camera over my one shoulder, the 70-200 2.8 on the rapid strap over my other and Rylin latched on to my side while playing with my keys. She was saying "Dada... ROOOOAAAARRRR" and I'd act like she scared me half to death all the way to the house. As we got to the front door I thought...soon this little girl is going to be too cool to go trick or treating with her daddy. Im not gonna be the coolest guy she knows all her life. She won't NEED me like this for much longer... I enjoy every second I have with my little sweetheart. I think that little walk up to the house will be one of those moments that gets etched into your brain forever.

This little girl really has me in the palm of her hand. Its funny how much we, as parents, need the children just as much as they need us...

My oldest who is almost 20 now, was dressed up as an angel when she was 4. I took het trick or treating.. She would run up the driveway of every house screaming.. "This house is Haunted.. This House is haunted.. Trick or treat!". That is so clearly etched in my brain....

I took a picture on her 1st day of school. Backpack, pigtails, lunch bag, Barney shoe etc.. then I took a similar picture when she started high school. bigger back pack, jeans, boots etc. On her graduation I took a picture with her diploma and gown. Now I have a cool composite with all those 3..

That is a great memory to have! Sounds like she was a fun little girl to be around! I love that idea of the school milestone composite! I enjoy reading your comments because we can relate. You are just a few steps ahead of me.

Here is Day 124.

Wowza... those eyes...I am sure mom & dad will bring the world to her with that look...

My girls (19, 14) are really close to me.. It was my right to sing them to sleep every night when they were little girls. It is so cool that even now.. once in a while, they'll rest their heads on my lap, and they'll ask me to sing those old movie songs from India that I used to sing as lullaby... special moments.. I cling to them... as much as possible...

I am glad that we had daughters.. they tend to be a bit more attached to parents...

Every time I hear the song, "Butterfly kisses" I choke up..., because I know that day is so close...

You are on to a good start.. keep capturing those memories

I giggled at that last pic ... it's like she's trying to hypnotize you!! Is Momma under her spell as much as Dada is?!

Cute shot! I'm planning to start a 365 project this weekend with my boys .... might not always be a picture of the 2 of them together, but I want to improve on my rusty skills .... plus, it gives me something to look forward to and think about.

Oh yes, Tara is also wrapped around her little finger! Although, I believe i may be a bigger sucker for those eyes! Mommy is "the bad guy" more often than I. She knows she really messed up when daddy raises his voice...however, I think hurts me more than her!

Thanks so much! The pic you quoted above was taken with the 85mm 1.8. For the last month I have used the EF 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 MK1 on my 7D. Earlier in the project I used my 85mm 1.8 and 50mm 1.8. But Im finding it's easier to use the zooms now that she is lightning quick! ;)

I have the 85mm and it's one of the best lenses out there. While I have taken a lot of great pics (according to me :P) I still believe what you are doing is amazing. If possible can you show us the before and after pic so I know how much PP you are doing?

And how is the 24-70? Maybe I should buy it next. I am looking for a lens that's cheap and is wide.

I don't know if the 24-70L fits in the "cheap" category, unless you comparing it to the new cinema zooms...

Well thank you very much for the kind words. I really do love the 85mm. such a fantastic lens for people.

Over the weekend I will share one of Ry's pics SOOC and edited for you and anyone else that's interested.

I try to keep PP light and as natural as possible. I try to nail the exposure in the camera so I wont degrade the image quality if I have to push the exposure in Camera RAW. I use Spot Metering and meter off of Rylin's cute little face at +2/3 stops on my light meter. Next, in photoshop CS5, I try to get the tones right and highlight eyes a little.

I like the 24-70mm 2.8 a lot. But its focal length is not perfect for a crop camera. I find myself needing to get wider than 24mm (38.4mm crop sensor) indoors. I think the 17-55 2.8 would be awesome for MY indoor lens. Thats all subjective though.

Here we go. I had my card loaded into the card reader so I pulled this right from the card. I reset all the tweaks I did in Camera RAW. This is how it was taken to finished product.
Before:

After:

I spot sharpen and brighten her eyes, use an adjustment layer to adjust levels and brightness/contrast and I sharpened the outline of her hoodie (that's in the same plane as her eyes). I also like to boost saturation and vibrance in Camera RAW.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. I'll be happy to help!

Thanks man. That was really helpful. I don't see much difference in the before-after pics so that's really good. Maybe I should start learning PS. Currently I do my editing in lightroom (not a pro in that also).

Thanks man. I just sharpened her eyes a little and remove some crusties from her face. Keep it simple is my motto when it comes to editing. ;)
