Brian,

What will you be shooting with?

PM me a week before the event, and I will see if I can hook you up
with one of the race boat owners.

Brian,

I could have really used that 400 f/5.6 for my testing pictures. My 200mm was not long enough to cover the distance.

here is a pic from last year. The JBS Turbine boat went out for a race an ran a couple laps then heard a big bang an shudder feeling from the left back of boat... came in an found this:

talking with the driver, he told me the story an showed me the damage. you can see that it just sheered it self from the prop shaft...

We were expecting 3 turbine boats this year. That has not materialized.

We have the 50 Mystic 'Miss Geico', and they are under contract with the sponsor for the
turbine boat for the reset of this year. They indicated they would continue with this boat,
next year, if there was competition in the class.

We had a new turbine boat, a 47 MTI 'Miss Mary Mac', fielded by John Arudda of
Turbine Marine Inc. They ran a few laps two races ago, and we have not seem them
since.

'Miss Geico" told me they are planning on racing in MI.

That was really ugly. Rust in a shaft that was brand new. Allegations of used parts instead of new, against the
vendor. It is a shame, that was/is a great boat, with good funding. I would sure like
to see them back.

I raced for a bunch of 10+ years, longer than most, and the attrition (burn out factor) is
very high. Ridiculous amounts of money to be completive, poor coverage, hardly enough
price money to even pay for gas, changing class rules from year to year, and watching
many friends and rivals die doing this.

I enjoyed racing, I have no regrets, but common sense took me over, and now I only run
at select events.

well at least one will be better then none. although really why show up. i mean if MG is the only turbine there then of course MG would win the turbine class. but you would think they would rather race other turbine boats for the competition, to be pushed to win...

seems with the cost of travel, fuel, an all that it wouldn't be feasible to be the only one to show up...
