If people could post some landscape shots and let me know what kind of lenses you've used to get them that would be great! I'm looking for a new lens for landscapes and would love to see what kind of results different lenses give.

not to rain on your thread idea, but if you don't feel like waiting you can do well in here too. Just check out the threads on the lenses you're considering and go from there. Obviously they aren't all landscape but you can scan through quick enough

Probably not as much difference as you might think there will be at web resolutions, here are few taken with various lenses Ive owned in the past or have today. I love my Zeiss 21 and 70-200, but the two EF-s lenses performed better on my 40D than the 17-40 did on my 5D.

Very nice pictures, MNUplander. I especially like the second. The glint of light from the setting (or is it rising) sun on the lower left rock is just a beautiful highlight, and the incoming waves have the perfect amount of motion blur. The whole scene just pulls me right in. I have the Zeiss 18, and I just love their lenses. I fell in love the second I pulled it out of the box (the construction is just a work of art), and I hear the 21mm is an even better lens (though a little wider than what I was looking for). . .not that you can go wrong with anything in their lineup.

As for the OP's request, just realize that the photographer is a far greater variable than just about any lens, so the photograph one person gets with a rather mediocre lens may still be far superior to what another photographer can achieve with some of the best lenses out there. And as MNUplander pointed out, it's really hard to tell at the resolutions we're posting here anyway.

As far as lenses in general, I really like this website for reviews: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews (external link). Then you just need to figure out what focal length best compliments your shooting style as well as the lenses you already own (or plan to own in the future). . .and I guess you should take your budget into account, but that can take the fun right out of it;)

Thanks - glad you like the shots. That is actually a sunrise, its one of my favorites in my collection. The Zeiss 21 is absolutely amazing - I love that lens and has me completely addicted to zeiss glass. Im thinking of dumping my 70-200 in favor of the 50 MP or 100 MP, but I'm not quite ready yet...thats a pretty flexible lens. Sure wish I could afford to have both around!

I love the 17-40 F/4L. I really want to get some different filters for it!

No disrespect intended but we're seeing some great PP work as well as great eyes.

Any lens is a "landscape lens"...don't fall into the "wide angle only" trap...you'll only limit yourself. Here are two that demonstrate both ends of the spectrum...

100-400L + 1.4x on 5D2 (560mm):

And the opposite end of the spectrum...17mm on a 5D2:

Incredibly true. Virtually any focal length can be used for landscape. If you read through the gear lists and photo descriptions in most landscape books you'll find virtually every FL represented. My personal favorites: 24 TS-E II, 24-105, and 70-200 II plus TCs.

The moon shot had to take lots of planning and timing to get that capture just right.
