group buys?

i haven't seen many but maybe its not allowed on the forums? back in the days when i was into car forums, there were a lot of group deals where if a certain number of buyers were met, a retailer or manufacturer would provide a discounted price for that item to those people. i'm in the market for a strap (possibly blackrapid or split strap) and this came to mind. i'll probably just order one, but maybe for other members this might work if the retailers/manufacturer​s are willing?

There's no rule about it that I'm aware off. They just don't seem to turn out well. The Peleng fisheye group buy several years ago comes to mind.

wasn't thinking about lenses but more along the lines of accessories, or smaller items such as straps, grips, batteries or, softboxes, reflectors. with a lot of these startup companies making accessories, maybe they'd be more willing to do something to get more sales and their name out there. just a thought. maybe next accessory i'll look into this more.
