Im away from my manual but I would like to know if I put a 420ex on the hot shoe would it pick up the functionality of the pop up flashes master capability using the controls in the body to trigger a couple more 420ex's off camera?

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

No, the 60d's built-in wireless capability is only via its pop up flash. You need a master capable speedlite to do that and in that case you are not utilizing the built in features on the 60d.

Why would you want to anyways?
