Looking at 70-200 F/4 IS with the following description:
"This lens was bought new Sep 2009 from B&H. The optics is clean. The only known issue is that manual focus from 1.2m to 3m is not smooth (the focusing point does not move smoothly as the*focus*ring moves) and auto focus takes extra effort when trying to focus in that region, but can still get focus very fast. Otherwise, the lens is in excellent working condition.
UX date code.
Comes with genuine B+W UV filter, pouch, lens hood and original box."

Asked for some clarification and got back this note:
"For the focusing issue, basically, you won't feel it if you use auto focus. If you use manual focusing, you need to turn the focus ring several times before the number in the readout window on the lens (which indicates the focusing point) starts to move, when it is between 1.2 ~ 3 meters."

He's asking $825 cash in person.

Thoughts?

I'd walk away from that one. Sounds like something needs to be fixed, or fixed soon.

pass pass pass

If you are spending that kind of money I'd walk away. Here's one for 950 with a tripod ring.

Thanks guys. I'm usually one that ascribes to the "if it's too good to be true..." but I have to admit I'm clouded on this one because I want a f/4 IS so dang bad.

At least the guy sound honest about the issue with the lens. You can find a refurbished 70-200 f4 IS at the Canon store for around 1070 with a 3 month warranty. http://shop.usa.canon.com …uct_10051_10051_282314_-1 (external link)

Yeah, I think I'll let this one slide.

I'd partially convinced myself to pick it up for $825 and then repair if needed. But I think now I'm more inclined to wait to pick up a good one from here or ebay.

"the only issue is..." is enough for me to run away.

i like buying an item that is used but otherwise in great working condition. ANY defects to the mechanics i walk away (scratches and scuffs may be fine) but that's just me.

im looking for the 70-200 just like you, but dont get desperate. ive seen some good deals on the 70-200 f/4 on this board (im looking for the 2.8 non-is so didnt jump on them)
