I have seen rumors of a S100 release

http://www.canonrumors.com …umor-s95-replacement-cr2/ (external link)

Does that mean that when it is released the S95 will drop in price?

Can anyone remember if the S90 price dropped with the release of the S95?

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

My friend already has one. Got it about 11 years ago. Not sure if it still works, though:

Well the fact that this rumor is based off the "S100 showing up in an inventory system" is suspect. It could just still be there from 9-10 years ago.

Canon just released an ELPH 100 HS, too, so it is going to be all kinds of confusing if they try to use 100.

Frankly, I wonder what they would improve for the S95. All I can think of is that they would make the lens wider or faster, but that would compromise quality and size. Viewfinder? How could you fit it in? More MP or backlit CMOS sensor? I think that would compromise sharpness.

That needs a CMOS and so far I don't think any CMOS can match the base ISO quality of the S90/95. So far all the CMOS are 1/2.3", too.

There are two Panasonic cameras with 1080p CCD sensors, so that's not unheard of.
A larger BSI-CMOS sensor will indeed be a first. We'll just have to wait and see.
I hope they give it a 24-105mm lens, while still retaining that essential f/2.0 aperture.

Not the same quality as a dslr with a expensive wide angle lens... but not too bad for $140 24mm point and shoot

I was able to score a barely used s90 for a great price last month, but then again I'm a firm believer in letting another tech junkie take the depreciation hit on new gear, and picking it up after the new model is released. For me, it was hard to justify the 50% premium for the s95 at this time. The s90 and s95 are both fantastic cameras, as will the "s100" when/if released.
