I'm thinking about buying the 4 megapixel G3 but am concerned about printing size. I may end up going with the 5 megapixel.

What's the largest I'll be able to print without affecting the image quality on the G3 with 4 megapixels?

Well I never went for bigger prints than 4x6, so I couldn't say. But the clerk who sold me the G3 showed me an 8x10 print he said he took with the G2 and it was looking VERY good.

No, no, no. Not a dumb question! I know the G3 is capable of great 8x10s but beyond that...? I'm still trying to find a link I remember seeing concerning that.

How large are you talking about and what method of printing?

I have a 13x19 printer and have had good results so far. The only thing that I've noticed is gradient banding with a jpeg photo. This problem may go away if the source is RAW.

Hi Shocket,

I have a Canon s900 printer.
With the G3, you could make very good 8.5 x 11 print.

But:

When you want to have the best print in 8.5x11 you must take your picture in RAW and convert it using Breezebrowser. For me Jpeg coming from Raw is somewhat sharper than from the camera Jpeg superfine
using the G3 default setting. This is the case with pictures where PEOPLE is predominance.

Finally, 4x6, 5x7 prints you can`t see the difference.
I can`t comment over 8.5x11 print because i don`t have a wide format printer to compare.

I had a 5 megapixel camera before and honestly it will print slighltly better than 4 megapixel at 8.5x11.
