Good idea, maybe a DIY :)

Something from today,

And also the reflector decided to take a bath in some rusty water (?)... so this is the result. White side is stained, any tips on how to clean it?

Haven't had an opportunity to really use the 1DIV yet, but from the few pics I've taken, one major advantage is the fact that there is no banding and color blotching that I saw with the 5DII, and others have seen also, especially if pushed in PP. And that's even at ISO 100 with the 5DII.

I also like the bigger batteries of the 1 series.

I owned the 1DsMKIII when it first came out. I also owned the 1DMKIII, so a 1 series is not new to me, though it's been a while.

The 1DsMKIII's biggest deal breaker for me, besides not so great high ISO performance, was the slow to display to the LCD. Now, that may be physics, the fact it's a large image, but my 5DII didn't suffer from that, so something was up.

The 1DMKIII had very poor focus, or at least mine did. Even after trips back to Canon for the supposed mirror fix, etc.

The MKIV just feels perfect in my hand. I missed the 1 series.

I can't wait to really go shooting with it. Stay tuned.

Before I abandon all hope, I'm hoping to get a couple of recommendations. I hope to purchase the 500 kit within the next 30 days and was hoping to pick up a couple of Rotalux as well. So, should I get the Deep 100cm or the 175cm and for the second one, should I get the 35 x 90cm or the 50 x 130cm? Also, are the softboxes that come in the kit very good?

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the insight Mark.

I must say, the 1DIV (when it's working) is everything I've ever wanted in a camera, and it seems to do everything I'd want it to. I don't have an issue with money, but justification sometimes gets a bit hard. I can't see myself parting with it though. At the moment I currently have a 1DII, 1dsII, 1DIV and a few lenses. I can see myself streamlining this to a 1DIV and possibly a 5Dc (purely as a backup and second body at weddings - the 1DsII is too much for me to justify as an emergency / potential wedding backup) and adding a couple of more lenses to my kit.

I do know what you mean about LCDs. A lot of people believe you don't need them and you should learn to shoot without one but I really enjoy having an accurate LCD so I can see what is happening. I had a shoot with the 1dsII on the weekend and it's just not a fun experience after using the 1DIV, the LCD is so far off it's not funny.

Wall of text complete, I'm glad you're having good initial impressions. I do love mine when it's working

I have a 500 BXRi kit. The soft boxes are good for a head a shoulders portrait for me. But once you get the other modifiers they do not get used much if at all.

My first modifier was a square elinchrom I forget the size. It was like 2' x 4'. The second was the deep octa. I dont use the square one much at all. Mostly deep octa and BD I use an umbrella as fill.

Hahah, I'm nowhere near loaded (re: no Mola, Indirect etc) but I'm happy to spend some money on my hobby and don't have to save for equipment.
