Back on topic (for the moment anyway). I've been looking at the Creative Light Stripboxes. They're quite reasonably priced here and for a gridded option, they seem to be the best available.

I remember people talking about them in the last thread but can't seem to remember what the general consensus was. I'm looking at getting 2 for edge lighting and doing easier composite work on grey.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 That was me.

The CL ring was the problem on them. The tube was not flush. They said you can try elinchrom speed rings but the rods are bigger on the box. I was going to try and drill a ring out but they are too expensive to try. So I stopped there.

Hmmmm, the supplier here (they're generally wrong) mentioned I could buy an Eli-CL ring for $65? That'd put the gridded box around $215 which is quite reasonable.

I most likely well, just messaging a couple of people that seem to have used them. I'll most likely be getting 2. Can easily stick them side by side for a nice large rectangular box too.

SQUARE!!! jk jk

I am really interested. I want two strips too but Rob demands chimera. The chimera may be great but the grids for it put it out of my price range.

I think CL is a gateway box to Chimera.

CL is distributed in US by MAC Group which also distributes Profoto.
I was a tech seminar last fall where they were using the CL boxes on Profoto heads.
Not sure if MAC Group has any relationship with Chimera.

The insert retaining bolts on the original Creative Light Elinchrom speed rings interfered with the locking collar on Elinchrom strobes:

The "fix" is to reverse the bolts so that the nuts are on the modifier side of the ring, not the light side. CL claims to have updated their speed rings to correct the problem. However, as recently as two weeks ago when I was at B&H, the CL Elinchrom ring I saw still had the bolts in the wrong way. Of course, that could have been an old ring they had on hand.

hmm... reading up a bit on the CL boxes... they spin freely to allow you to reposition the box easily.. unfortunately how are you supposed to remove the box? seems plenty of people have had an issue with this...
