So you Canon folks hope the 5DIII will be Canons first non gripped FF body with professional grade build, sealing, AF ?

Csae wrote in post #12723223 (external link)
Hate it. But its my workhorse atm.

That'd be too much to hope for really, but decent AF should be a given, will probably compare to the 7D more or less.

Better sensor is what is likely as well, the 5d1 was all about the sensor, and so is the 5d2. If you were to compare them to dMF, you'd be shocked at how well they AF :D

Yeah, 5D III will come out 6 mo's after 1Ds IV, same sensor but in the 5D Body, probably not many upgrades other than getting the 7D autofocus.

If you want to save money, never buy yourself a 1series. It's impossible to go back.

<3 my 1DIV and I'm sure Martin will say the same.

So true. I was on the fence between 5D II and 1Ds III, held them side by side before I made a final decision. No contest at all IMHO, 1Ds III was the clear winner. Huge viewfinder, fast autofocus, super responsive (shutter lag, mirror blackout), and built like a tank. Never regretted the decision once, and really have no need to upgrade no matter how good the 1Ds IV is.

The 5D was really a game changer for Canon, just like the D3 was for Nikon.

Yeah, but the 5d2 was a huge success and game changer as well... just not really in the field they were hoping for.

Funny how a add-on "feature" became a great success and the single reason many bought the camera.

I remember seeing a bunch of 1ds 3 for sale, mainly because for the price you could get Two 5d2's and most found them sufficient.

I do miss my 1ds2... I was considering selling the 5d2, and grabbing a 1ds2 + x100 but i've taken quite a liking to shooting in LiveView with a LCDVF. Its like a giant groundglass but slower...

I have Zeiss AF with IS...;)

BTW Canons 24-70 isn't exactly class leading...:-)

nor does it have IS ;) I hope it comes out when the 5DIII comes out or sooner

all I want is a bit better than 5DII IQ and 7D AF and I will love it
dont need pro grade. That is the 1D series.

Yes the 5DII is not failure in anyway, but i do think many hoped for it to have more pro features and not "dumbed" down as much.

I honestly dont care about video. Dumb that down  raise the sync to 250 so I can go faster with my elinchrom strobes. There we should be good for a few pages now

Nice segway. I'll bite. I'm getting 1/1250 with a Ranger A head and a Mini TT1 with PWII's on a 7D. Interestingly I can only get 1/320 on my 5D MkII.

Cheers

Shane

And the shutter has further to travel, I understand. But the relationship appears strained when you consider the sensor size difference is only 38% longer on the short axis.

I think thats probably true, but it makes so much more sense from different POVs to release the 5d3 FIRST. Especially if they use the same sensor or close enough.

Iron out the bugs, see the response, etc, incorporate most of those fixes in the 1ds4 and the frustrated pros will buy that right away.

@sigma pi: wait for the 5dIII, thats what I'm doing. and crap, now you've got me thinking.... if the 5dIII comes in a kit with a 24-70 IS, I'm so ditching my 24-70. I love the thing though. Practically never leaves my camera.

I've been away from POTN for the past 24 hours (HORRORS!) so I just saw this post now. The correct thread size is 5/16-24 NOT 5/8-24.

Dave F.

MANY thanks for posting this. I'll probably drop by the ol' Home Depot tonight and pick up a few pieces so I can mount my PLM on axis..... I did use it last night with the umbrella adapter and it fit inside my D-Lite, but didn't slide all the way through. I suppose that is the tapered umbrella shaft problem I hear everyone complaining about with Eli. thing that concerns me more is that there isn't a locking mechanism for the umbrella shaft, although I really dont see myself using it that much.

 Dennis and I were saying that in the old thread. The first time we used our strobes we were like OMG this is the secret to great pictures

Congrats and glad you like them.

Oh yeah, the strobes are nice... I've worked with some before, just not my own. But the PLM is what I was saying I love. suuuuper soft light. very nice modifier, especially for the price. :-D

NO no no. When the flaps are open you can easily grab the side of the speed ring and mount the light. I do it every day and I'm not just shoveling s**t into your wagon. ;)

Flaps? OK, I see what you mean. Just about all my softboxes are Eli softboxes and they don't have any flaps. I do have a PCB softbox (pre-foldable model) which I don't use anymore and that one doesn't have any flaps either. But now that I think of it, I did get an Interfit octabox recently for my Chimera video light and that one does have flaps on it so I guess I can imagine how I'd be able to mount it on to an Eli strobe the way you described previously. So I stand corrected, assuming we're talking about softboxes with flaps on them (and not all do have flaps). :)
