Flaps? OK, I see what you mean. Just about all my softboxes are Eli softboxes and they don't have any flaps. I do have a PCB softbox (pre-foldable model) which I don't use anymore and that one doesn't have any flaps either. But now that I think of it, I did get an Interfit octabox recently for my Chimera video light and that one does have flaps on it so I guess I can imagine how I'd be able to mount it on to an Eli strobe the way you described previously. So I stand corrected, assuming we're talking about softboxes with flaps on them (and not all do have flaps). :)

Granted, the Elinchrom and other foldable boxes don't have flaps, as they're not need... Although.... it would be nice if I cold get my hand inside the Elinchrom ring for those times when I forget to lock the speed ring down. I hate that!!!

As far as I know, almost as standard lightboxes have the flaps and some octas have a 'cowl' of sorts that seals things up.

My Chimera, Photoflex and Cheetah softboxes all have the flaps.

I honestly dont care about video. Dumb that down  raise the sync to 250 so I can go faster with my elinchrom strobes. There we should be good for a few pages now

1/200 or 1/250 is not that bad difference for the image quality you get from the FF :P

@sigma pi: wait for the 5dIII, thats what I'm doing. and crap, now you've got me thinking.... if the 5dIII comes in a kit with a 24-70 IS, I'm so ditching my 24-70. I love the thing though. Practically never leaves my camera.

I thought of doing the same, wait... But then I got fed up and bought the 5Dii. Back in April every one was saying 5Diii will come out in summer. But there is still no new camera.

Also the 24-70L is great lens, but even better on FF camera :)

I think thats probably true, but it makes so much more sense from different POVs to release the 5d3 FIRST. Especially if they use the same sensor or close enough.

Iron out the bugs, see the response, etc, incorporate most of those fixes in the 1ds4 and the frustrated pros will buy that right away.

well People will buy the 5D3 and wont have money or need to buy a 1ds

Excellent work!

gotta keep us honest / legit ;)

OK we have a pact now. Waiting on the 5D3 :D .
The rumored 24-70 with IS has been talked about for years. There is a patent on it and they say there is a few out there being tested.

MANY thanks for posting this. I'll probably drop by the ol' Home Depot tonight and pick up a few pieces so I can mount my PLM on axis..... I did use it last night with the umbrella adapter and it fit inside my D-Lite, but didn't slide all the way through. I suppose that is the tapered umbrella shaft problem I hear everyone complaining about with Eli. thing that concerns me more is that there isn't a locking mechanism for the umbrella shaft, although I really dont see myself using it that much.

I knew dave would come through :D

aaron.dunlap wrote in post #12724644 (external link)
Oh yeah, the strobes are nice... I've worked with some before, just not my own. But the PLM is what I was saying I love. suuuuper soft light. very nice modifier, especially for the price. :-D

ahhhhh well there is always the "74 inch octa  price is a bit high though :(

Not likely considering that Canon first needs to develop an AF system for it.

I think canon does have better af already (1 series for example and 7d) but they are still selling 5dii quite well so no need to update the model. :s

That's actually very common in many speed rings. Some speed rings do have nuts that you can turn by hand to tighten or loosen the rotation of the insert within the ring.

If you're suing modifiers outside and there's a breeze then I could see the need to lock the modifier into position but when I'm in the studio or indoors I've never even given it s second thought and never needed the ability to tighten or lock the position.

Watch it now, Robert. You don't want to be contracting yourself. But, of course, we both know that we were only talking about those softboxes with flaps where the need for locking down the insert is not necessary, right? ;) :D

OK in a bind I can get a 5D Classic for $900 with less than 1k actuations

Should I get that in the mean time or just wait for 5D II money or 5DIII money?

what are the major differences?

all the 5D's are capable of producing great images , if used for static pictures

dutchmen345 wrote in post #12722694 (external link)
Which camera do you shoot with now ? How long will you have to save up for the 5DII ?

I mean if it's only a night with a pile of 10 dollar bills... then id say you wait.

D700.
Major difference is this one has autofocus

TMR Design wrote in post #12722758 (external link)
+1.

i knew this was coming

sigma pi wrote in post #12722808 (external link)
7D and I love the AF on that
Actually I have enough to buy a new 5DII but want the 5DIII if it has the 7D AF. The 5DII AF isnt the bee's knees me.

The other Major difference I have no nikon glass

you're not alone

Lichtwerk wrote in post #12722891 (external link)
My condolences

it's not about the camera, it's the eli lighting that makes great images :p

at this rate I will have enough for a 1Ds4 when they release it
I think the 7D AF is great. I have no complaints.
