I dont use many of them

I use the single point AF and the joystick the most.

   so why not 5Dii? The centre auto focus point is good.

I dont like to focus then recompose. I just like moving the focus box using the joystick, its easier for me.

+1 to both of those. It's awesome to use the outer focus points on the 1 series cameras and they are dead accurate. Plus, the joystick makes it easy. I do wish the joystick was reachable when using the camera vertically though. Not a real problem, I'm still pretty fast with the button + rear wheel approach.

I don't shoot sports, but chasing kids with a camera certainly falls into the "action" category. :)

and on the 1D MKIV there are loads, unlike the MKIII where only 9 are user selectable.

How about kids running round at a dim wedding reception or in deep shade...

If the MKIVs and the 5DIII and not up to expectations, I'm off to nikon 2013.

One of the first things I decided once I started using the mkII is that "loads" is "too many". Configuring it to use 9 selectable points and enabling the others to work as assist points is much easier to use.

Granted that the lack of a joystick is part of the problem but even with a joystick it can be overkill. I think the number of points on the 7D is about perfect, though I'd gladly exchange the 7D's diamond arrangement for the more rectangular arrangement in the 1 series.

MANY thanks for posting this. I'll probably drop by the ol' Home Depot tonight and pick up a few pieces so I can mount my PLM on axis..... I did use it last night with the umbrella adapter and it fit inside my D-Lite, but didn't slide all the way through. I suppose that is the tapered umbrella shaft problem I hear everyone complaining about with Eli. thing that concerns me more is that there isn't a locking mechanism for the umbrella shaft, although I really dont see myself using it that much.

Odd all my PLMs fit the umbrella shafts, they have to be pushed in a little bit but they fit snugly.

Not snugly enough for the 86" to be pointed straight up without slowly sliding through the umbrella holder though :( Some tape oughta fix that, not sure why eli doesn't have a locking mechanism for the umbrella slot.

Feel free to call me Case.
