Hey now, I haven't been away from the office in months. I've earned it. I think.

Guys, help me decide... do you think the D650 boom is worth getting over the D600? (for an A5042CS)

Lichtwerk wrote in post #13043515 (external link)
I was thinking that the D600 might be a little on the short side at 7' (keeping in mind the larger stand footprint of 4 1/2' in diameter).
The D650 also weights double... oh well, think I might have to just go get the D650 and deal with the weight of that combo...

I dunno, that's a pretty freaking huge boom. I've always thought that the D600 was big, can't imagine the D650. Why don't you get one of those all-in-one boom stands that Brendan has?

Simon the elinchrom ring with a mola attached is on the way

How much did shipping end up costing? More than the dish? :)

Chancellor Logistics Intl. checking in from Dubai.
Just wanted to say we take pride in personal delivery.

I hope that your checked luggage consists of 45 different Elinchrom Modifiers.

Not too bad, and still quite a good deal for Simon considering UK prices.

Ok. Don't tell anyone in the AB thread, but I'm feeling the pull away from my AB/Einstein setup. I use my strobes for both in studio and on location and would prefer to go with a three or four light system that'll allow me clean, powerful light (the ability to overpower the sun with a single strobe, etc) as well as be durable enough to be used and carried location that aren't just outside my house or in the local park.

What do you guys think? I've been brought up in AB terminology, so if I'm off about any of this, my apologies. In addition to Elinchrom, I'm currently researching Profoto, etc.

I'm not sure, I think a lot. Was never very good at figuring out the proper calculation for USD -> bob/quid/tuppence/ha'penny/farthing.

You're safe here. It's going to be okay. The first thing you need to do though is go take a shower and wash off that awful smell.

j/k :)

On a serious note, I think the main thing to think about is the line of modifiers you plan on buying. That will have a big influence on the cost of the system and which way you want to go. Once you figure in the cost of several modifiers, Profoto starts to get really expensive.

Were you wanting to overpower the sun with hard light or soft light? From up close or far away/full length shots? That's should give you some indication whether you should be looking at a smaller pack like the Quadra or Acute B 600, or if you need more power like a Ranger or 7B.

The A4050CS is on my list, but I really love the junior rollers.

What's pulling you away from AB? Is there something in particular or do you just want to change things up a bit/upgrade for the heck of it?

Do you want battery power for location use?

Einstein is a good strobe. On location though the Ranger is hard to beat. Profoto is great too. You will only get a win win out of either of those two.

That's cool - to be able to check on how many times the tube has been triggered on a used strobe when you're looking at buying it......

Yes! But by then, it's in your studio??? I see that function as a peace of mind, but that's all... It won't deter you from buying a Style 600rx that has been triggered over 400,000 times.
