I use Profoto and CL boxes with Profoto lamps and CL and Chimera rings. You can use any 8-hole ring, such as Chimera (which I use on occasion with say a 1x4 CL strip - just use opposing pairs of the narrowest space holes) with CL strips.

As Dennis indicates, the Eli unit did have an issue with the nylock nuts on the lamp side hitting the Eli locking ring (great testing guys). That said, if it's not been revised, apparently if you reverse the mount so that the nylocks are on the fabric side and the button-style machine screw heads on the lamp side, it clears the lamp's locking collar. Me, I'd just buy the Chimera ring if the CL unit hasn't been changed.

I really hope the picture they have on B&H is old and doesn't show the current design. They had this at Photokina last year, even mounted to an Elinchrom strobe at their booth, and the screws would block the locking mechanism.

I'm with you guys. More is always better!

OR the route I am on is more of both. The worse kind for the pocket book.

I want two rim lights with strip boxes on both sides
one main
one fill and
two for the BG

6 I only have 4 ........ and Ill need a bigger pelican case. (it only fits 3)

This is where I am going...

I just got two strip boxes from Cheetah....they look nice. I have my Speedotron BD and 39 DO....and the PLM v2's from PB.

I could use a couple more lights...;)

Soooo. How do you like the Mini?

I'm using the Mini and D-Lite 4it and it's a great combination.

This thing is EXCEPTIONAL quality. Charged it last night, fired off a few this morning before work.

First impressions when opening the box:
"Oh, the charger fits perfectly right there.... and it uses a standard plug, sweet. Oh hey they put a cord in that little pocket, nice. Oh I see, the charging connector is right there, I dont even need to take it out of the bag."

The light I grabbed was set to 2.0. Recycled in less than a second. So I cranked it up to 6.0. Recycled in less than two seconds... I was blown away. For some reason it seemed that they were recycling faster than when connected to my wall socket. I'm going to test this out tonight and probably put together a video showing that comparison.

Good to hear.

The strobe can't recycle faster with the Mini than when plugged in to an AC wall outlet. Your optimism is playing tricks on you. :D

If you saw the video I did using a 600RX and at full power you can see the recycle time with the Mini is just about as fast as when powered by standard AC.

*sticks fingers in ears* la la la.... it can too recycle faster with the mini. They put magic inside it.

I didn't see that video though. Mind pasting a link to it or pointing me in the right direction?

I prefer the term "students", and rent comes first, then comes the repair bill on the 5d2, THEN comes more eli gear, after that if theres anythin left i guess some food would be a good idea.

sry i had to i guess i won't be seeing that SB now lol.

Peli sale?!
I doubt I'll be in the US before end of next year to visit my aunt in NYC. Unless I move to SF next year

Yeah they're single voltage, but more tolerant of spikes.

Yeah they have a factory sale. They are like 10-15 minutes from my work. It was pretty bad ass. I forget how much I got all that you see for but i think it was less than 250

FJ LOVE wrote in post #12743836 (external link)
so you just ignored my stripbox suggestion eh

eh? [/canadian] What suggestion?

Lichtwerk wrote in post #12743870 (external link)
Nope. I'll have a look at it in September
They're really not too high up on my list right now.

Just got a BXRI 500 from Adorama, I had a peek under the handle and saw One extra fuse only but there are two slots, are there supposed to be another one there?

CONGRATS!!! dont stress over it too much. I have not burnt a fuse yet. I have used 220v for 6 hours at full pop and have had no problems.

sweet! thanks for the info. So which ring should I order? The CL ring to attach to the box and then toss the Eli ring in the trash. Then order the chimera adapter to put in the CL speed ring?

Haha Sorry. CL is pretty cheap though and the grids are reasonable. Rob almost had me buying the chimera set up but the grid killed that deal.

w00t congrats.
