a short review please? i just thought to buy CL stripbox.

So, general impression of the CL box is that the material is nice and sturdy. So are the rods. I also like that the rods are much thicker around the speedring area, you can grab them fairly easily. That said, it was still a pita to disassemble.

The fabric grid is no lighttools grid, but for the price it's a pretty darn good grid.

Now the speedring. The screws were indeed reversed so they don't clash with the mount anymore, BUT:
When I tried to remove the box from the strobe, it was stuck. The insert kept rotating inside the speedring no matter how firmly we held onto it. We took apart the front of the strobe, removing the bayonet from the strobe and were then able to remove the insert from the bayonet.
We then found out what the problem was and spent half an hour filing the insert into the correct shape. Works now. Maybe they should sell some files as a CL starter kit ;)

All in all not a bad strip with grid combo. Consider that a Chimera strip and grid combo will probably cost you double that. I'd probably go with a different speedring (Bowens QR if it fits). ;)

(And I'm definitely getting 2 Chimeras)

Forget the bad lighting. Those images make me very uncomfortable.

Yeah, I totally agree. I'm a one-mannequin man myself. ;)

Pi, on the other hand, doesn't have one but lusts after other people's.
Mike, you sinner, you...thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's mannequin!!!

You know Leo, i think i screwed myself a bit though, cause now everytime someone posts one of those its a game of wheres waldo.

And i hated that game, i could never find the bloody bugger!

So i tried to think like the author and see "where would i have put waldo if i was trying to hide him", then i realized that i would leave waldo out of at least 1 set just to mess with people.

With most people whizzing by the posts in this thread, I doubt many, if any, will find Waldo. People should slow down sometimes and even stop to smell the flowers. :)

Hi Aaron,

Mannequin's can get fairly expensive. Even some of the head and shoulder mannequin's can be costly, and the wig is extra.

If you don't want to buy one you might try department stores or hair salons, cosmetology schools, etc.

Sometimes they'll give you something or just charge you a small fee.

I once started a thread about this and I believe I posted the name of the ebay seller and the item I purchased. Others have also posted info.

One day I might get the white grid, but for now I really want the black. I want that hard grid edge. Just hoping it ships in the near future, no real ETA.

I don't get the white grid thing. The purpose of the grid is to narrow the angle of coverage. Using white which reflects and deflects light any-which-way just defeats the purpose of the grid, IMHO.

It's like using a grid... but... no so much. ;)

You mean for those people who can't decide if they should be using the grid or not? :D

The more I play with my lights the more I hate the Elinchrom connector. Sheese...almost worth going to Profoto for that alone....

Don't get me started, Jon.

I can't stand the Elinchrom mount and the so-called locking collar.

If it weren't for the huge overall expense, I'd be using Profoto's already.

Are you getting your mannequin in pieces, too? My mannequin is just a head, neck and partial shoulder. For now, the rest of her body, minus the arms, is just a tall bar stool.
