Are you getting your mannequin in pieces, too? My mannequin is just a head, neck and partial shoulder. For now, the rest of her body, minus the arms, is just a tall bar stool.

haha no, I bought it as a prop for a shoot. :) Dunno what to do with it now.

Got Lightroom3 today. :) Nice improvement over LR2 :)

eBay? Thats where I got the leg from :)

Why?

I just hate how loose it is and the "locking" collar is a joke. I love the actual light, how they operate and the modifiers..

I don't get the white grid thing. The purpose of the grid is to narrow the angle of coverage. Using white which reflects and deflects light any-which-way just defeats the purpose of the grid, IMHO.

TMR Design wrote in post #13144426 (external link)
It's like using a grid... but... no so much. ;)

As silly as it may sound...yes, that's exactly why I want it. What I don't like about gridded lights on location is the difference between that which the light falls on and that which the grid isolates. Looks way too unnatural and spotlight-ish. I want control of the light and a tighter spread without turning it into a laser beam with harsh edges. I think the white grid will do exactly that. If you look at the comparisons on the honeycomb grid site, I think it looks like a great compromise.

Of course, this is all speculation, as I've only used black grids in my day.

glad i'm not the only one. at least it does lock down to prevent it from rotating off. the pressure clamp on the profoto rings could fail and then you're up a creek till you get a new one.

Ahh thought it is better on full size heads. Quadra is the same joke, but then I thought it is only because Quadra adapter is flimsy. :)

"I like a grid, but maybe not. I just can't decide."

I was in that situation yesterday. I decided to not use a grid but zoom my reflector ;)

Harleypugs wrote in post #13144472 (external link)
The more I play with my lights the more I hate the Elinchrom connector. Sheese...almost worth going to Profoto for that alone....

TMR Design wrote in post #13144481 (external link)
Don't get me started, Jon.

I can't stand the Elinchrom mount and the so-called locking collar.

If it weren't for the huge overall expense, I'd be using Profoto's already.

I broke one of Dirk's locking pins two days ago :(

what is loose?

the speed ring does not lock down tightly. when you put it in, twist it, and then slide the lock over, the modifier is still able to wiggle around.

i need to get some big number labels for mine.... and brand stickers too. :-)
