Doubt it. That's a battery pack and battery packs recycle much slower than AC packs....unless, of course, the battery pack happens to be a Broncolor Verso. :D

I actually prefer the elinchrom mount over the Hensel. When I owned hensel, I was never sure whether or not it was fully seated, whereas you can't have that problem with Elinchrom. While there may be more wiggle/play, I don't find that really effects real world usage much (however none of mine have *that* much play).

In the end, there's nothing like profoto's mount. Their mount is reason enough to upgrade lighting, as it's not only 100% simple/secure, but it also allows you to "focus" the light within the reflector/modifier.

I agree.

Honestly, if I were to upgrade it wouldn't be to a Ranger or other Elinchrom system. It would be Profoto.

Don't get me wrong, guys. My dislike for the Elinchrom mount is a relatively minor thing but something that does bother me.

The main reason I'm still with elinchrom lights (I'll use some of their modifiers forever) is because of the ranger packs. Profoto just doesn't make anything comparable that's weather proof and in the same ballpark/league as the Ranger. Someday I may sell my 600RX's and move to profoto packs and heads for indoor work, but that would really complicate things (and I like the skyport functionality without also having to use Air).

Edit: darnit...shouldn't have looked into the air options. So flippin' sweet but so flippin' expensive to do it right. Each transceiver is $320 and the usb dongle is around $500. In order to have a pack where you can control each head separately you have to go for the d4 air packs...so you're talking $7500. Ah well, the wife and I keep kicking around the idea of moving to NYC, so maybe when I sell her car I'll buy profoto lights. Just don't tell her.

I'll be staying with Elinchrom for quite some time to come. :) I find it interesting that some folks here are thinking of jumping ship. But hey - everyone's needs are different. I haven't a single issue with Elinchrom right now... everything works just as i could wish. Never had a bayonet issue or anything along those lines. The gear works and that's all i need, especially with weddings.

Competitively priced, awesome feature set, durable. Done deal for me.

Don't get me wrong....I'm very happy with elinchrom and have no plans to switch anytime soon. But if/when I do jump ship it will be to profoto purely for their focusability due to their mount. I could care less about elinchroms bayonet mount, and find that it works just fine....but the ability that profoto lights can focus the light (especially in beauty dishes and small reflectors) is truly unparalleled. That's a lot of flexibility that I just don't/can't have with elinchrom.

Hey, the Pro-B recycles in 1.8 secs!

Air is pretty sweet, but as you said: packs that make full use of it are just crazy expensive. I was lucky enough to pick up 3 Air transceivers for about $350 all together ;)
