Used 1DsII is in the same price range as the 5DII and IMO a vastly superior buy for all but extremely low light work.

I always (except for my Mark IV as it was a steal) buy the last gen 1series (I have a 1DII, 1DsII and a 1DIV) as they're always the best value for money IMO.

I dunno, maybe it's a "girl thing". I like to buy everything new. Guys tend to manage better with used equipment. ... I wouldn't know whether somebody selling me a used camera was taking advantage of me. Same thing with cars. I only buy cars new.

I know guys who are extremely comfortable and confident buying used cars. They know how to check out the engine & brakes & stuff. Not me. No way.

So, while you're probably right about purchasing the "last gen 1 series", I'm gonna stick with my 5D II that automatically came with an extended warranty (courtesy of American Express) and won't lose a bit of sleep.

Besides, I really, really like new stuff. ... Especially new shoes

I am not a professional photographer, and could never justify the expenditure for a 1-series body. As you said, the 5D original body served you well, until you upgraded. I found the 5D II to be very reasonably priced, and it serves my purposes quite well. I'll stick with this until it dies on me. Bottom line, my 5D II will still crank out pictures that are just as good the day I opened the box, whether a 5D III is announced or whether Santa Claus leaves a 1D X under the tree (that aint gonna happen :rolleyes. ... Newer equipment releases will not magically make current equipment perform any worse.

If I were ever to earn a living from behind the lens, I would start to consider the added benefits of a 1-series. Besides, I'm not sure my hands are big enough to use a 1-series comfortably. ... I'm on the petite side .

I was just thinking about this today... I could pick up a used 1Ds II for cheap. Tough call. I don't get a whole lot of requests for super large prints. 16mp could do a whole lot.

You'll print 16mp as large as you'd want to ever print 21mp. You'll get an autofocus system that actually works and you'll get a body that can take a pounding.

The tiny LCD, two button press for every adjustment, and the slow playback responsiveness of the 1Ds II drove me crazy.

LCD was a bit of a **** for me, I got used to the two button really quickly (I had the 1DII as well) and I never really noticed the playback :/.

That being said I really do love my Mark IV.

Oh I love the image quality out of the 5DII. Its just the AF.

I am petite too

All my lighting gear is used, as is my Mark IV.

On the other hand I have bought the following used:
1DsII, 1DII, 24-105, 70-200 IS I, 50 1.4, 11-16\

Now, now, Dave. Don't you go get green with envy on me just because I'm in tune with my feminine side and like to buy new instead of used stuff (there's nothing like pulling out a brand spanking new gear out of a sealed box and taking a whiff of that brand spanking new gear smell).

Of course, new shoes doesn't do anything for me, though. I only buy new shoes when my old ones has worn down to a point where I'd be too embarrassed to be seen wearing them any longer.
