I just double checked and as I said above, the Photoflex rods are huge in comparison to hole in the Rotalux Speed ring. The back end of the Elinchrom rods don't have a bullet or widened tip.

So now I'm even more curious as to what you're describing and using.

I'm pretty sure the digital hassies are digital only.

Yeah, I think you're right.

This could be very interesting to you...

Yeah, I saw that last night and it really caught my interest....until I linked to another page where it says that the H4X is only available as a trade-in for the H1/H2 bodies, i.e. it's not available for sale at all to the general public. :|

I will go and delete a few of my posts :p

Yeah the tax was really a shock!

get him!

Now, Mike, if I were to really do what I said I had brainstormed, do you think you'd be able to delete any post of yours once the thread is closed? Huh? ;) :p

Ah, you must not have been to Quebec, its the taxes over here ;)

I used to be able to get back most of the taxes I paid while visiting Canada many years ago but, unfortunately for the outside visitors, they did away with that policy. :(

I was going to mention the same thing as Brendan, Leo. . . Find a cheap H1/H2 and trade it in for a "new" HDX, I think the upgrade price is approximately $4-5,000.

That's kind of steep for an upgrade (and more so when you add in the cost of the H1/H2). And it doesn't even come with a lens or a viewfinder.

This is timely. After putting together two new Photoflex boxes last night I really don't see how the Photoflex rods can fit into the Elinchrom rings either. It would be nice though.

How is that possible? I'm using Elinchrom Speed rings with my Photoflex softboxes.

I was initially thinking the same thing until it occurred to me that what Rob was talking about was the Rotalux speed ring and I, and possibly you, was thinking about the Eli speed ring insert.

Well, if that's the case, then Yes, Elinchrom inserts and compatible Elinchrom rings from third parties work fine, but there's no way to jam those bulleted rod ends into the Elinchrom speed ring.

I wonder what the parts cost on Elinchrom softbox rods is. Maybe you could get a few extra and cut them down to the right length.

There may very well be a way but I don't see the need and it's costly to do so. Buying a spare Elinchrom Rotalux ring and replacement rods isn't exactly cheap.

I find that using a Bowens Quick Ring does the job so well and I find no need to buy or modifiy anything.

It would also require more rods and custom lengths with other lightboxes. If you didn't do that then you'd be swapping out a speed ring and rods every time you wanted to use another modifier.

I don't see it.

I was thinking about getting the 2336 Westcott 36-inch Apollo Orb for an easy location modifier for the quadra, what do you guys think?

Looks like a decent modifier, but is it going to be any easier/better than something like the baby deep octa? One of the review comments indicates that it doesn't tilt, so that might be a bit of a hassle when having an assistant boom it up.

As a side note, I just have to say that my daughter is the cutest thing ever. :)

I've got the Varistar Scott, it's a nice underrated little modifier.

There have been some other umbrella-style modifiers discussed fairly recently that I think are better choices. Westcott won't budge on thier design and the lack of tilt-a-bility is really a drag. Yes, there are DIY's, brackets, additional arms, etc. to allow for tilting, but why bother when there are plenty of other choices.

I know that Dave has one from SP Systems that he likes very much and has very similar properties as the Elinchrom Deep Octa, but with the umbrella design for easy setup and breakdown.
