Well, for Canon, you could use either the 85 1.8, the 85 1.2L, the sigma 85 1.4, the samyang 85 1.4 or the newly announced 85 1.3Cine ? Which i think will be interesting if its a Tstop since theres some controversy over the 85 1.2 "Fstop", if i can rent one at a reasonable price i would be curious to try it out.

All in all, i would hope that 85 1.4 is darn good :P

.... maybe I should get a Nikon.....

we don't have experts in this thread , it's why we all get along ;)

No, but we have a brilliant 85mm f/1.4. :D

But it doesn't get as much hype here as the 85L :) (I know this is a Canon forum)

I'm sure you have heard of using the Deep Octa in "Beauty Dish Mode" - putting in the translucent reflector/deflector disc about 15cm (~6") from the strobe.

Can you do something similar with the other "normal" Rotalux Octas?

Of course you can. You just don't get quite the same punch. It's a little less contrasty.

I have to apologize for contributing to the problem, Case.

I have always called the opaque white the white translucent and that may or may not be throwing some folks off.

That's the deflector that is included with many of the Rotalux lightboxes.

The correct nomenclature is:

Frosted
White
Silver
Urine

Ahh, I've been calling the gold deflector 'pissy'.

Fair enough, so "White" is what you get with the rotas right? "Frosted" is the more transparent one that you get from the pack...
