Fair enough, so "White" is what you get with the rotas right? "Frosted" is the more transparent one that you get from the pack...

Correct.

I have to apologize for contributing to the problem, Case.

I have always called the opaque white the white translucent and that may or may not be throwing some folks off.

That's the deflector that is included with many of the Rotalux lightboxes.

Sheldon N wrote in post #13383299 (external link)
The correct nomenclature is:

Frosted
White
Silver
Urine

To add to the confusion, Elinchrom calls their reflectors Silver, Gold, Translucent and Frost. So you were correct, Rob. That so called "opaque white" actually is the white translucent deflector and that's what I call it also. :)

Bah!

If Elinchrom won't reply to my emails about the Maxilite, then they lose the privilege to name their own products. :)

You mean you still haven't gotten your Maxilite yet? You should just get your money back from B&H!

According to B&H, they're still temporarily unavailable and I believe Dave reported back after PhotoPlus and said that Mark Astmann had told him they didn't know when they were going to see more and that Elinchrom was looking for a new factory to make them. I think that was the story.

Yeah, that's what I'd heard as well. But I want them to tell me that.

But what would I have left to complain about then? :)

I don't miss the $85, but I do miss the Maxilite.

Yep, that's pretty much the story. I was told the original Maxilite fabricator had gone out of business and that, while another vendor had been found, the quality of the reflectors produced by the new supplier was unacceptable. Consequently, Elinchrom is currently without a source for Maxilites. I don't know if other reflectors are in a similar state of limbo.

I did mention to Mark Sheldon's inability to get any kind of response to repeated inquiries.

Dave F.

BTW: Roberts and Optics Planet both show the Maxilite as being in stock.

In related news, I've heard that PCB is going to release a new 16" parabolic reflector.

I did mention to Mark Sheldon's inability to get any kind of response to repeated inquiries.

Dave F.

Did you mention the inquiry that I sent specifically to him?

BTW: Roberts and Optics Planet both show the Maxilite as being in stock.

I think I'll keep the extra $15 they are charging and the ability to complain. :)

You'll get about as much sympathy from me as Pi did when he complained about his cold LA weather. I thought it was awesome! Crisp mornings, 70's in the afternoon, it doesn't get any better.

He had on his winter parka.

:)
