AEB Bracketing 5D Mark 2

I was reading David Busch's book on the 5D Mark 2 and it showed what to do to get the the bracket moved to over or under exposed.
This is not the main dial that expands the bracket but the QCD that moves the staring point left or right.

So I had it in manual and it wouldn't do it.
I moved it to P and Then it worked.
So my question is this.
Can you not move the bracketing start point in Manual?

Please elaborate if you will.

Just change your exposure and it moves the bracket.....

That is what Manual means.

So if you are at ISO 200 f/4 1/100 and the bracket is centered exactly on 0.... But you want to center the bracket at -2/3, then just change your shutter speed to 1/160 (or aperture to f/5) and it will move 2/3rds to the left.

Also, you have to start metering for it to show your changes. So it can look like nothing is happening at all until you give the shutter a half-press.

I assume what you are doing is combining AEB with EC? If so, EC does not work (and would be pointless) in M mode.
