I'd like to make a page for my extended family (for example: Smith Cottage). Additionally, I would like this private; only viewable to invitees or 'accepted' people on FB.

Does anyone know how to do this?

I would think you just make the page, set the privacy to friends only then friend only the people you want to see it.

I just looked through the settings of my FB page, & there's no way to do it. It's a publicly viewable page open to anyone to see.

unless...

you make your family members admins of the page (which they'd need to have a FB account for). Then, under "manage permissions", you check the box for "Only admins can see this page" by 'Page visibility'

I think I found my answer:
Pages

Privacy: Page information and posts are public and generally available to everyone on Facebook.

So it seems like I cannot make a 'page' that is private.

thanks for the info, I agree, that is an option. Unfortunately I probably don't want 14 admin's.

You can create a group, which allows the following settings:

Open: Anyone can see the group, who's in it, and what members post.
Closed: Anyone can see the group and who's in it. Only members see posts.
Secret: Only members see the group, who's in it, and what members post.

The "create group" link is on your homepage, left column.

A Secret group should do the trick. Just don't name it "Tom D from 145 Main Street in Anytown, NY - 845-755-1212 does want you to see this page."
