At the office, my company owns an older Canon 40D and a few L lenses that our AV employee uses for in-house corporate photos.

I'm called upon to be his backup, when he's unable to shoot.

He was recently using the company's Canon 16-35L f/2.8 II, only purchased last year, when the manual focus ring locked-up.

The lens auto focuses fine, but in manual focus mode, the ring does not turn!

I read somewhere online that several people have had this problem, but it's easily fixed and not terribly expensive, or covered under warranty.

The lens was bought from B&H from our purchasing dept.

We called B&H to get it repaired, and their response was surprising!

"Sorry, we don't do repairs"

With that, I need know where to send it in for service.

Can anyone advise?

Much appreciated in advance.

Thanks, I figured that, but just wanted to be sure.

Sometimes, a good photo dealer will handle that for you. I use a local shop near my home and they have always handled the repair orders for my personal equipment.

I guess I was surprised that B&H doesn't offer repair service.

Thanks again for your assistance.

B&H is a national retailer. It makes no sense for them to be a middle man for what could amount to thousands of transactions. Especially given that some users have unreasonable expectations about the cost and effectiveness of some repairs. Your local shop goes above and beyond what most do, and that may be why you still have a local when many of us do not. But I think your expectations are higher than what most of us find to be the standard.
