Pending the final decision of whether or not to launch the shuttle tomorrow (70% chance of not happening) I will be camping out on a remote man-made island 10 miles away from the pad with a great vantage point to shoot the launch.

tried to get a 600 f4 before the launch, all sold out / rented out. I don't have a tremendous amount of money but even at 600mm where we were there was too much haze to get a good shot. I still made off well, have a lot of stories to tell, and a lot of things learned you can bet this will happen again with the Air Force launches next door.

some highlights:

Beer = good
25 knot headwind in a canoe = not good. Had to get a tow
New shooting spot for future Air Force launches = win
Dumb ass tourists who park in the boat ramp launch = EPIC FAIL but
FLAWLESS VICTORY for waking her up at 6am with some classic 80's Metallica.

I didn't end up having to camp out but I was ready for it just in case.

Right now I'm going through all the photos and everything looks pretty good so I'll have to post up here tomorrow morning.

Boat ramps are some of the best places to go for cheap entertainment. :lol:

LOL - this has been a summer fave for years when we're at the cottage - take the kids into "town", get them an ice cream and eat it at the public boat launch, while watching all the landlubbing neophytes put in the water and not get divorced all in the same activity.

Out to sea....the island I set up on. Forgot to get the paddle so I improvised, plus I may have had to camp the night and this would have been used for collecting fuel for the campfire. Weather-sealed lenses FTMFW.....my 70-200 f4 IS and 24-105/4 were out of the cases for the trip over and both got a fair amount of water on them and work fine.

And it's gone.
