I am very fresh and new to photography and recently started to put some of my shots on the forums. I think my editing is getting much better and my technique is getting stronger too, at least that is what the wife thinks :).

Here are couple of shots from last weekend. Would love to find out where I went wrong ;). Both shots were with Canon xsi and 24-70 f2.8L.

This is one of my favourite shots for some reason....just love it!!

Thank you for your time and critique :).
Karim.

Looks to me like your WB is off in the first and the horizon is slightly crooked, I like the compostion of the second but the sky color doesn't do it for me.

I don't see anything to critique without knowing what you were going for. Picture 2 is evocative, especially if that is your family. It would be a favorite for anyone.

What you did in editing is the question. There are so many choices available these days, that you can add photo filter effects, selectively edit portions of the image or manipulate the image in hundreds of ways.

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.

Thank you both for your input :). I did notice the horizon too especially in the first pic. Both these pictures were voverexposed quite a bit and I started to play around in lightroom and ended up with the above results. In pic 2, yes the sky colour is not the best and I will change that.

Pic 2 is of wife Niece and Nephew. I was not going for anything particular just testing different settings with camera.

Once again appreciate the comments :).
Karim.

Both photos need the horizons straightened. No t sure about the tint in the first, but a crop above the fluffy clouds might add to the composition?

Second is lovely I bet without those filters:D

I like what I'm seeing.

The first one needs the horizon straightened.

The colors are unusual, but interesting (hopefully it is intentional).

I love #1 but it needs to be straightened. You can do that easily in Photoshop. #2 is very nice as well with the family values motif. However, I would have liked to have seen a clearer sky at the horizon level. A good CPL filter might work well on #2.

Pic 1. Horizon needs to be straightened, and also croped a little so that the horizon is not centre of the picture. Not feeling the B&W would love to see this picture in color. I would have also cloned out all the people in the water and along the wharf.

Pic 2. Horizon also needs to be straightened. Other than that I like it!

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I will straighten the horizon and change colour to the sky. Colours were all intentional, wanted to try a different look espcially for the first pic. I am still in a learning process and if someone is willing to show me what they can do with the above two pics in terms of colour, I would love to see their point of view. I will post the updated pics later tonight once home but please feel free to make changes as I do have Image Editing on :).

Cheers,
Karim.
