The other day I was scrambling down a steep slope, seriously wishing that I wasn't carrying my tripod in one hand. So I looked at the tripod straps listed on B&H and can't find out the differences between many of them.

Basically I'm looking for something that will comfortably carry my 3021Pro with head - so it's not light - keep it out of the way while walking through New England forests, and be quick and painless for setup and knock-down. Well, I'm torn between quick setup and padded protection - I usually leave my tripod in the trunk so it gets knocked around a little and is subject to more moisture than if i stored it in the house.

Given this, it looks like the Bogen 401N Quick Action Sling-Style Tripod Strap (external link) is the one for me.

Has anyone ever used this, or at least seen it in person?
Any comments about any of the other straps or bags?
Any comments about bags versus straps?

I've mostly used a regular camera strap secured to the "neck" area various ways depending on the tripod and connected via D-ring to a section of 2" hook-and-loop at the other end, which goes around the legs to keep them together. My Manfrotto C-F whatever it is came with a stap with single point of attachment which doesn't do anything for me - I really need to upgrade it to my customary. Maybe use that strap on the monopod.

This is the one I use: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …ghType=categoryNavigation (external link)

It's long enough to carry my 3021BPRO across my back in the same way as the one you illustrated, but it's not as bulky or difficult to deal with. I do have the padded "warmers" on all three legs of my tripod which makes carrying it across my back a little more comfortable than the bare metal legs.

I have the same strap as the link posted by Mr. Douglas. Mine only came with the one eye bolt that is attached to the top. Never used it or tried to figure out how to attach it.

The eyebolt goes into the hole in the tripod at the top of one leg. The other end of the strap makes a slip loop...you can either put the loop around all three legs to keep them together while hiking, or (what I did) put the loop around one leg on the middle section so that you do not have to remove the loop to setup and shoot, and use velcro strap to keep the three legs together.
