Assuming a 5DMK3 is announced, how soon will you buy?

Assuming it's got all the features I want, I'll wait for some reviews, user experiences to come in before I get one.

If it's based on the same poor-DR tech of the 5D2, I'll be buying it the day after the Earth falls into the Sun.

As soon as all the early adopters buy it, test it... oops sorry I mean use it and the price comes right down ... approximately 6 to 12 months after it's released.

Assuming its got all the features I want, AND the price is reasonable (under $3000), then I'll buy it the next day. Just like what Silverfox said, there are excellent return policies online. I mean, it can't be worse than the current 5Dii, right?

I generally reckon the price has bottomed out somewhere between 12 and 18 months after release (ignoring waiting years until it is obsolete). That was when I bought my 5d mark 2.

Depends on what the 1Ds4 has to offer, which I reckon will be available first. Unlike the last time around, when the 1Ds3 was more or less eclipsed by the 5D2 if you weren't bothered by AF, shutter speed, or construction; I don't think that's going to happen this time around. The advantages of HD LCD on the 1D4 and 5D2 over the 1Ds3 are obvious to me, as is video. In fact what has puzzled me with Canon, is why they simply didn't just tweak the 1Ds3 with it when the technology became available. More 1Ds3 units would have been sold with people like me who simply needed a more demanding and reliable AF system in the 1Ds3 than the 5D2 can deliver; not least a shell than can be quite literally pawed upon by animals in tight situations such as inside their enclosures

Other than what I just said, the 5D2 is still a lovely camera, and i'm going to cling onto mine for quite a while, given it's going to need some replacing, if you approach the concept with a sober head. But the allure of the latest spec for whatever replaces it.. I suspect it will all make perfect sense as I surrender my CC details :)

^ 1ds series will be merged with the 5d-series in Canon's roadmap.

Why would you buy the 5D3? It's not going to have half of the features of the 5D4.

I say wait.

I don't think it will have "all the features you want", it is plain and simple a marketing ploy. Not saying that only Canon are guilty of this, but same with other manufacturers

What's wrong with the DR? Are you referring to the pattern noise thing? I've found that to be quite an overblown problem thus far...fairly easily avoidable in many situations (though yeah, sometimes it does get you).

I will buy it as soon as I can order it..as long as its specs are better then the MKII on focus...hopefully the sensor and low light iso are improved much better along with MP's of course...hopefully it will be chocked full of new odds and ends..I hope they dont get carried away with moving buttons and switches around...could care less about a movable screen..
