I'm new to ordering prints over ROES systems, and my first print order was quite large (Many different prints and sizes). The actual ordering process seemed to take me a long time and was very clunky for me. In addition, I made some errors and ordered black and white photos on colored paper etc. and just had an overall difficult time when I tried to go back and change them to B&W paper etc. - I thought I had changed them, but it didn't happen, and it wasn't until the order was placed that I really had any way to determine what paper they were on.

Is it me, or is there a trick or workflow to ordering through a ROES system? I basically had a list of files I wanted to have printed beside me and the sizes of each and I just checked them off as I went. Do you guys expedite the process by creating file names with sizes etc?

As ROES seems the standard, I just want to develop a workflow that expedites the process. Frankly, I prefer the ordering system MPIX uses where you can easily change the paper type, size, etc. on the itemized list with thumbnails and drop down boxes, but apparently that isn't the "Normal" way to order prints. What is it about ROES that causes it to be the standard?

I use two different labs that both use the ROES system but each implementation is a little different so yours could vary from what I see. When ordering prints I customize each of the prints to size and save them either with a specific name that has size in it or to a folder for each different size. I then go through and order one size at a time.

My experience with ROES is exactly the opposite of yours, I like it. It is easy to review what you have in a pending order before you actually hit the final button. I get an email back showing exactly what is ordered complete with thumbnails. Have I ever made mistakes in large orders, sure. I had a skating club with over 3000 prints but they were my mistakes and I learned from that experience. I would try separating your sizes and go through and order them one at a time. Of course this isn't going to solve the issue of ordering on the wrong paper. I have found that it is worth the effort to review the order before finally submitting. Give it time and you will learn to love it. If you have concerns voice it to your lab and perhaps they can suggest something to you to assist in your problems.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

The problem I was having most, and I have to look into it further, is when I was going back and forth between the order summary, and back to editing a photo, it would go back to the tab of the most recently ordered photo. For instance, I realized that I had ordered B&W photos on color paper, so I ordered the next one on black and white. I edited the other B&W, and it defaulted to the B&W paper tab, so I saved it. Unfortunately, I missed a step somewhere to convert it to the B&W paper. I believe this was Bay Photo I was using at the time.

When I review their summary, it just lists the file and size, no the paper type, I will watch more carefully next time, and see if there is an intermediate step where it shows the paper.

I think sorting by size sounds like the way to go. I will try that next time!

Thanks!
