Hi all. Recently bought a second hand Canon 350d / XT. Ii was body only with battery included ( NB-2LH ) When I picked it up from the shop the battery was completely dead and I had to wait half an hour while they charged it up so they could show me the thing worked. Anyway yesterday after a full charge the battery lasted about 45 mins and 50 shots before it completely died. Charged it last night and today it lasted about 6 hours and 300 shots! If a battery is dormant for along time is it likely that it will take a few charges before it regains its former duration capability. Or is my charger / battery faulty!

It don't take all night and day to charge a battery IMO

Its an old battery, probably on its last legs. Pick up a new one and you will be fine. Check amazon or google sterlingtek for decent aftermarket batteries.

What is your basis for the warning on copy batteries on amazon? I've done very well with multiple batteries from there.

So no personal experience... The only compatibility problems are with newer chipped batteries, the one he is replacing should be fine with a generic battery.

Also Amazon naturally has no direct control over the third party vendors using their Marketplace feature so buyer !!beware!!

I have charged it about three times each time the charge takes 90 mins..............Yesterday it lasted 45 mins, sorry forgot to mention this morning it lasted about 90 mins and then I charged it again took it out today and thats when it performed well despite it being old! So basically after each charge the performance has improved and today was a massive improvement.............can"t really get hold of a battery at the moment so need to know whether this one will continue to perform or will it pack up after 30 minutes again! My question is whether batteries that have been dead for a long time ( maybe months ) can gradually regain their power with each charge?

Hello zamami

I would go back to the shop you got it from and ask them for a newer battery, if not just wait unitl the older one dies, it's up to you good luck

Its not going to get any better than it is. You mention its performance in terms of time, rather than frames taken but what you may be experiencing is not any improvement in performance but just a variation in battery draw based on how much zooming, flash use etc.. The point is, your battery is underperforming, and is unlikely to improve significantly. Get a replacement ASAP because once the decline is that marked they usually go downhill fast.

sounds like it's remembering it's a battery. my guess is it'll improve to something approaching a new Canon battery and work ok. If I were you, I'd get a spare and have it handy.

Thanks alot for the advice.........I might try the shop. However I bought it for a very reasonable price and they told me that there was no guarantee and if there is something wrong that's the gamble i took as it was shipped from another shop far away! I'll give it a go...........it will challenge my limited Japanese! Thanks anyway Gonbanwa!!!!!
