Got another Midge this morning. He was on my LCD monitor and about the size of a comma. I was able to touch him, which kind of smashed him, then I used a tweezer to get him onto a slide.

The first two shots are at 10x and the last at 20x. check out the little feather thing between the toes. Not sure what that is, but it may be a trigger to tell the claws to grasp.

1. A stack of 7 images at 10x.

Wow, that's taking 'macro' more seriously than most of us are willing to do.

Thanks Rick and Jon. Ya know what though, that microscope was about half the price of a Canon 100 Macro lens. Add the two nice objective lenses I bought for it and it's about the same. So far, this has been a fairly modest cost hobby. And I don't have to go very far to find subjects. Just to the other end of my desk where the aquarium is. LOL

Thanks Rakesh. There is no lens attached directly to the camera. In the picture above, my T1i is at the very top with a USB cable to the computer and a long off camera shoe cord going to the flash. Below the camera are a set of Kenko tubes and another set of Chinese made screw together extension tubes.

Inside the tubes, at the very bottom of the tubes and inside, is what's called a Projector lens. You can't see it here, it's inside the tubes, but you can go to my Microscope link in the footer and there are pictures of it on those pages. It's pretty much like an eyepiece lens in a microscope, but only 2.5x. This lens is needed to focus the image coming up through the trinocular tube onto the camera sensor.

Below all that, are the various objective lenses, where the real power comes from. They are on a turret that holds 6 lenses I can turn to line up with the camera or eyepieces above. The turret holds a 2x, 4x, 10x, 20x and two 40x objective lenses. The eypieces are 10x.

Oh god  lol - now that is something I have never done and probably wont in the near future. Dont think the brain will cope with that until I have more spare time, so good luck with it lol

presume you focus via a live view on your PC's monitor?

Yes, I use Live View through EOS Utility. I have a dual monitor setup, so I run the contoller in one window and the main window in the other. EOS Utility has a magnified view that goes to 200x. I use it quite regularly when there are lines to focus on. Not much good on smooth stuff though. :)
