I took this image last year at Milford CT

I never saw a Parakeet in wild in US before this sighting so I was little surprised...

I wish the head angle was little towards me but I hardly got couple of shots before this one took off..

Sharon I see them quite often around Milford so I think I can hope to get a better shot in future...They are beautiful!

They are nice and colorful, but in terms of having them as neighbors they squawk pretty much incessantly and nest in huge groups (hundreds), not just a pair or so.

They have been successfully (whatever that really means) introduced in quite a few locales around the country. We have quite a few in the Austin area.

Great shot. My sister-in-law lives near Milford. We went over there last year to see these guys. It's amazing they can put up with the cold there in winter. Good to see they're still around as we're going up there again in a few weeks.


My Gear: 6D, 7D, EOS-M w EF-M 22 f2 STM and EF-M 18-55 f3.5-5.6 IS STM, 17-40L f4, 24-70L f2.8, 100 f2.8 non-IS macro, 70-200L f/4 IS, 400L f5.6,, Canon 1.4x II TC, Canon Speedlite 430 EX II, Better Beamer. Expect to see plenty of common terns there...The piping plovers and Oystercatchers would be around..Osprey chicks are growing fast so not sure if they will be in nest by then..
