hey guys, i am really looking for your help and recommendations!!!
i've just sold my beloved 50mm 1.8 II only to get the 50mm 1.4 (my wife will kill me if i only think about the 1.2L), but recently i was reading reviews about how good is the 85mm. i understand that with 85mm i can shoot from a better distance and with the 50mm i will enjoy larger aperture and now i am confused!!
would love recommendations, which one is better build, sharper, etc... i really need to make up my mind asap.

another thing, i am waiting for my tamron 17-50 VC to arrive. some friends told me that it's as good as the equivalent canon but much cheaper for a standard zoom lens. so did i made the right choice???
please guys help ,e out here and share your personal experience with me :)

Not sure if anyone is capable of giving advice without knowing your needs.

If you are going to have 17-50 which is very good lens, add 85 1.8, they say it is one of the best lenses for price-performance.

i was using the 50mm 1.8 for portraits. and what i am looking for is a better lens with better details, and better bokeh that's why i thought i have to go with larger aperture.

I'd add the 85mm 1.8 for portraits. It's fast, sharp wide open, and the bokeh is lovely. I use it for portraits of my daughter. You'll already have 50mm covered by your new Tamron, so I'd go this way to add something different to your lineup. But that's just me. That's what I've got.

You should note that you need a good amount of working distance between you and your subject. I never use this lens indoors. [I live in a small house.] I use my Tamron with a flash indoors.

Here's a sample of the 85mm 1.8. I took this one last night.

ISO: 200
Exposure: 1/640 sec
Aperture: 2.0
Focal Length: 85mm

Thes 85mm 1.8 is for sale on this forum all the time. Give it a try.

Good luck.

give the 85 1.8 a try, if it doesn't give you what you want rent the 85 1.2 and see if it'll satisfy you

Awww. Thanks. I have been using this lens for about a year and I have really enjoyed it. I hope you will, too. :)
