I've had an idea, and could do with some help in getting it to work...

I've been looking around for a tripod head which will allow me to find the nodal point for some panoramic shots, but Be-jesuuuus, they are expensive!!!

Now I have one of these: (222)

MIME changed to 'text/html' | Content warning: script

And also one of these: (115)

Now what I want to do is mount the 115 on the tripod, and then add the 222 on top, with both heads giving me the option to angle to the correct point.

The problem I'm having is finding a adapter that will convert a thin thread female, to a fat sized male thread.

Any idea's where I can be looking?

TIA

First, have you looked at any of the less expensive pano heads, like the Panosaurus, Nodal Ninja, or KingPano? They range from $90 to $150 I think.

Do you plan on doing multi-row panos? If so your rig won't work very well since you won't be able to center all the pivot points (pitch, roll, and yaw) around the entrance pupil.

If you only plan on doing single-row panos you just need to worry about getting the entrance pupil centered over the panning pivot point. You could easily get an L bracket of some kind, dril a couple holes, and make that work rather easily.

If you still want this adapter I think what you're looking for is a Bogen 3054 (external link)

You can take my 100-400 L away when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

look up big little studs at ace hardware. Mine were metric but you should be able to get them in standard. [edit] That bogen adapter above is better suited to install and have stay put. There's no way to snug up the big-little studs, it could come loose.
