not sure if there are any waterproof camera bags but if there aren't you could consider something like this waterproof backpack and put a camera bag insert inside:

For example, something like this:

plus something like this

i guess waterproof was the wrong word, just something that can handle getting a splash or two and not have water seep into the bag.

you're not worried about rolling whilst kayaking? or accidentally dropping the bag into the water whilst getting in and out? You have some pricey equipment to protect.

true enough, i was just responding to the first replier. i was hoping for an actual camera bag with easier access so if complete waterproofing wasnt a possibility, the next best would be something that can handle getting a splash. sorry for the confusion. the last thing i want is wrecked gear.

If you need water protection from rolling or falling overboard, you need to look at pelican cases. then setup camp or whatever and xfer from the case to a bag for the hikes.

For Kayaking I strap a small Pelican to the rear deck, but that leaves you no way to use it while you're out on the water. Next best would probably be a roll top dry bag of some sort, maybe on the floor under the spray deck. I had a friend who used to use his that way, so when we'd pause on the way out to the islands he could pull his spray deck lose and get at his camera.

If you're sure you're only going out on smooth days and all you're worried about is the potential for small spashes there are a lot of bags out there. I would imagine the Crumplers could work, though I've never owned one so I'm just guessing here. Billinghams are pretty waterproof, but I'm not sure to the degree that you'd want. On something like the Hadley I'd be concerned about the edges under the top flap.

kayaking isnt what i am worried about because its just for one day, im more or less looking for a bag that can handle all/most of the conditions alaksa has to offer.

is there such a thing as a camera backpack with sufficient water sealing/proofing, lightweight, and can hold my gear? or am i going to have to do like a pelican setup for the kayaking and switch up bags when i go on a hike or whatever else we end up doing?

The Lowepro Dryzone bags (linked above) are waterproof when fully closed, and are basic backpacks which can (depending on the air-gear ratio) float.

You could get a pelican & just get one big enough to fit your bag that way you can just pull it out and go.

I am also heading to Alaska next week. I bought this Case Logic bag mainly for the 70-200. My other slingshot Lowepro could not fit 70-200.

This is little bigger for my day use, but a perfect bag for Alaska trip- to hold laptop, 60D, lenses, camcoder and a P&S It does has some waterproofing with a vinyl bottom.

The waterproof backpack looks interesting.
