I was on a photo safari at the zoo this weekend, when I passed this gentleman and his family...I was really struck by the deep red of his turban against the green backdrop. He very kindly stopped long enough for me to grab this snap...who says the 100-400 isn't a "portrait" lens :D

I agree. He does look like a great subject. Maybe try increasing the exposure and dodge the eyes a little bit?

Hey, thanks guys! :) He was very nice when I just stopped and asked for a quick shot.

I've gone back and forth on dodging the eyes...The turban is really the subject, and I wonder if bringing the eyes up more would detract from that focus or not. <shrug>

I'll give it a try, though; worst that happens is I don't like it :p

I find his face a little too dark. I understand that the turbin is the main focus, but he is the character wearing it.

I wouldn't try increasing the exposure as a pevious poster mentioned, as it will brighter the highlights in the BG. Try a shadow / highlights adjustment layer with a mask and just paint it on. And dodge the eyes to your liking.

Why isn't my wallet bottomless?

I can always do localized exposure adjustments, just on him, as well...but yeah, I'll play around with it a bit I think.

Thanks for the tips! :)
