I have the Tamron 90mm macro and I absolutely love it, no complaints. I was surfing the macro section on the forum, and I was noticing that many people are using extension tubes with their existing macros, mainly 100mm Canon and 105mm Sigma and they are getting amazing shots of bugs and insects. Now I have gotten some nice shots of bees with mine, but if i get any closer, they'll fly away. So my question is, for those of you who have extension tubes for your dedicated macros, should I get one or a set, and what's a good brand to get?

There have been other threads on this topic; this is a good recent one: https://photography-on-the.net …t=1059160&highlight=tubes

But the general consensus is that tubes have no glass in them, so they are optically the same... cheap $5 ones from ebay work the same as expensive canon ones. Only difference is the higher end ones are built stronger, and have digital connection points (AF, aperture, etc.), while the cheap ones don't.

Kenko is a highly recommended and popular brand. A lot cheaper than canon

I'm working with a Canon 100mm macro and thinking about extension tubes, everybody uses them, don't they? Frankly, I would rather something that enabled me to be further away from the insect. I'll probably get extension tubes anyway, Canon though, I read they have a more solid connection than Kenko.

I looked at the Canon teleconverters, unfortunately, I have the 100mm macro and I don't think there compatible with lenses below 135mm. Am I wrong? Please advise.

I have used a 1.4TC, with a full set of kenko tubes and 100mm f2.8 (in that order) with no problems. A bit long, but get pretty good results. See for yourself here (external link)

cheers, Paul
