Hey guys,

Just upgraded from a 500D to a 7D and now on the hunt for a nice lens (probably an L lens). Now i do lots of nightclub photography and I am also doing a lot of fashion photoshoots. I want this lens to cater more for the photo shoots ut yeah just unsure on what what work well.. I would love an 85mm of some sort but the 7d is a crop sensor meaning i would have to go pretty far back jut to get a whole body shot.. any help would be great thanks!!

If you do nightclub and fashion, then why didn't you go fullframe? Well that's too late now :D

For nightclubs you might need wide. For fashion not too wide because of the distortion. Nightclub is dark so a fast lens (large aperture) is nice. Fot fashion it's all about IQ.

If you want all in 1 lens. Maybe the 24-70 is a good option. Although 24mm on a 7D is not really that wide.

An other option might be:
17-55 for the nightclubs, it has f2.8 and IS. (and maybe even the fashion shoots)
70-200 f4 for fashion. (nice DOF and very sharp)

Haha yeah i know mainly for the price and because i also do video. Thanks though! I notice you have a 16-35mm would you recommend that at all? The nightclub I do is plays heavy techno music so distortion on the pics isnt a bad thing haha

No for nightclubs it's not a big deal. But if you buy lets say a 16-35 and you use it for fashion. You'll see a little fisheye effect. That's not what you want in fashion. ( http://peltarion.eu/img/tokinaFF-1.jpg (external link) ) That's what i mean.

Imo the 17-55 is a better choice. Cheaper, same image quality, also has f2.8 and it has IS wich the 16-35 does not have. Don't let the lack of a red ring fool you. 17-55 beats most L lenses.

The 70-200 is used a lot for fashion.

17-55 won't let you down, although for fashion you may be better served by a prime lens.
