I'm shooting a series of portraits for a 2012 calendar that will be sold to the New England bellydance community, and local dancers have been approached and asked to model for each month. I shot my first month this weekend - November 2012.

The model is a Boston based snake charmer and dancer (http://zehara.com/ (external link)), and she wanted to mix her favorite November day, the day of the dead, with "Quetzalcoatl the Feathered Serpent" and the Mayan end of the world prediction.

Ouch. I was out of ideas right there. Did some googling, she brought out her snakes, provided costume and makeup, and the morning of the shoot I jogged past an awesome location of cleared / felled trees - we had to climb through some brush to get to it, and my light stand was balanced quite precariously - but I love what we ended up with.

Then, something a bit closer

We haven't picked the shot we'll use on the calendar yet.

Thanks - #3 was my favorite as a portrait, but I suspect she'll use the others more, as they have the rest of the theme going on.

What was driving me nuts though - that snake at the back would not look at me - SO unprofessional :p :)
