All apologies if this is the wrong place for this thread or if one has already been listed, but I could not find one.

So there seems to be information that the 1D and 1Ds will roll into one body for the 1D Mark V expected to be released around Oct. This would be a great set up, but will it be under $10K. Seems that there may be a setting that will adjust the crop on the sensor. This may be the only way to allow up to 10fps.

Any one out there with additional information or a thread I can go to?

Question to the speed freaks: Does a 10fps peak rate really get you the "magical" shot(s) that 8fps didn't/couldn't?

Maybe, maybe not...depends on the timing of the photographer.

But it just sounds so freakin' cool, which makes it worth it.

No guarantees, but you get 2 more chances every second to try :D
and +1 it sounds waaay cool doing so.

You could ask does 8fps really get you the magical shot(s) that 6fps didn't/couldn't as well.

There are folk who capture extraordinary action with a single shot.. but more fps just helps.

I don't think that is true. Cropping would reduce clearing time for the buffer, but not increase FPS. FPS is mostly mechanical.

If Canon is smart they will do it without Cropping.

Canon have already managed 10fps full frame earlier for film.

Clearing the buffer, processing the data and storing it is no simple feat - especially since we constantly get more and more pixels and more bit depth to handle.

So we know that Canon can do the mechanics. We do not know if they can do the read-out and processing.

FPS is both. Nikon does 11 FPS on a full-frame mirror in DX crop mode on the D3s. On digital we can do 60 FPS electronically for smaller resolutions.

Best shot I ever took was a 10 second exposure on a tripod.

I could see that as a nifty feature though for the next 1Ds...

8-10 FPS for full image size... If you want, you could "disable" the FF sensor borders to a 1.3 crop to achieve 10-12 FPS or go even farther to 1.6 crop to enable 12-14 FPS. As long as the mechanics can hold up to it. Software would simple disable "zones" on the sensor so there would be less data to transfer in these cropped modes.

It sells cameras! Just like for a sports car, does 0-60 in 3.8 seconds really feel faster than 0-60 in 4.0 seconds? Doubtful, but if you are plunking down for a superfast car, why leave something on the table?
