Ridgefield NWR Pelicans

I've been told this is a rare occurrence - American White Pelicans in SW Washington state. Small group of 30~40 spent some time at Ridgefield NWR this week. Images are not real good but they were just as much fun to get...I was standing on the sill of the car with one foot on the window sill of the drivers door trying to get over the tall grass between us and them.

Someone here will know better, but I read an article in Nat Geo that they breed in Montana. They may have made a little diversion along the way.

Evidently they are rather localized. We have them in northeastern Washington state but not in the SW corner. They are even appearing in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Must be global warming.
