Your post is totally incomprehensible. Say something a bit more coherent, and maybe you'll get an answer.

Phase detection is the "normal" focus detection method used by the camera.
Contrast detection is the focus detection method used in LiveView.

Contrast detection is more accurate and it is not limited by lens aperture but it operates much more slowly.

I think he's referring to comparing pictures of a test target using both contrast and phase detect AF to determine a micro-adjust setting. Take a picture using live view contrast AF. Take another using phase detect AF. Compare the two for focus and micro-adjust accordingly.

Is this correct, OP?

Yes , I am still getting different results when I MA .
I tried looking in manual , 7D Digital field guide and a short course in EOS 7D .
I downloaded the canon manual [Bigger print = easier to read]
I tried the flat poster on wall [old bug ID chart] popped the mirror out of a cheap makeup case and glued to it . 3 shots - 17-55 fine , 3 shots 70-200 all over place .
I did the ruler at an angle thing [architect scale] at about 15 feet - 17-55 fine 70-200 off , tried + and -5 , 10 and 15
I did not like any seemed "0' was better .
Looking for something else to try and found the contrast and phase detect .
So contrast is the live view and phase detect is the normal ?
I was just taking the shots and then put everything away and look at on computer .
Thanks .

Article on lensrentals.com (external link) about phase detection versus contrast detection.

I'm in Canada. Isn't that weird!
