I was really impressed to discover that Canon Flashlights seem to dominate the scene here!

There are great 3rd party flash units out there and many of them fair equally or even better to mother Canon’s offerings – most of the time for a better price.

I happen to own a Metz 58 AF1 which is a flawless unit with clever features (second fill bulb on the front/ usb port for firmware updates) and in Europe these are top sellers. Metz is German by the way…

Nothing is perfect ofcourse and I would love a simpler way to access FEC or a pc sync on it, but for the money performance is stellar.

So, how come these are not favorites for you guys ???

From what I've read people use Nissin, Yongnuo and Nikon flashes here too. But of course, everyone will mention the Canon offerings first.

I've used Metz flashes since the late 1970s, I still have a Metz 45CT1, which I bought in around 1979-80. The first Metz flashes I used were the old 202 and 402 with lead acid batteries. I best flash I've ever owned was Metz 60CT1,, heaps of grunt and makes the 580EX look like a toy.

I have a couple of 430EX (version I and II) which are great flashes. I bought a Nissin Di866 about 10 months ago, which is a great flash.

I didn't know Canon made flashlights.

I prefer my Maglite's though.

Well, it is a Canon forum....

Actually, I've found that the folks in the small flash and studio light section are very open to all brands of flash.

I'm more curious why there is not a dedicated subforum for Canon flashes.
