550ex and 540ez both act like 200e's

Can't change any flash power settings. Both of them have developed this problem over time and I'm sure something is internally wrong with them. Both got left in a high-heat area while under power and now they do this. They fire and work in ATTL / ETTL but 1/128 fires like 1/1. Anyone ever have this issue? Would like some direction before I tear into one of these again.

Well I think I found my problem, it's a circuitry issue and apparently common with these flash units. Time to rip them apart.
