Or if you live in Europe is crap too :P
The silver 86 inches V2 PLM is:

94.32 Pounds
or
107.408621 Euros
or
152.090607 U.S. dollars
(without front diffuser of course)

There´s a reason why people are getting the knock offs...

It is actually cheaper to buy a Softlighter II in Adorama and have it shipped here than buying the PLM :P silly things...

Yeah thats just nuts. It can not compete.

I'll be getting a Soft Silver 64" for sure.

That's what... 16 inches smaller than an 80" Lastolite? ;)

yeah, ouch... 86" v2 PLM is $75 bucks here. haven't checked out the westcott/other offerings for comparison, but the PLM v2 is very well made.

You mean like your two 80" Lastolites that have never been unfurled, Rudi? :D

Oh, they were unfurled. 160 inches of Lastolite goodness. Then they were furled again. ;)

I wish I had a studio to store a huge PLM. I need one though. eventually, eventually.

I think that's pretty much agreed on :D
On the VB thread, someone said Innovatronix charges you guys 1.6x more than here. That's how much it costs for your import duties, GST, VAT, and whatever other weird taxes you have.
The rest of the cost is another level of distributorship (remember that PCB sells direct here and if you buy there, you go through a distributor). That's 50% average.
There's your 2x cost...come over here and visit, buy stuff, bring it back...that's what a lot of people I meet here do...

Pentax K20D, 77Ltd, 43Ltd, Sigma 17-70, 60-250/4, crapload of Strobist gear (SB28's, RP JrX Studios, Einsteins, WL, Speedo BD, softboxes, grids, etc.)

Is anyone dumb enough to do that with gear as flaky as PCB's? No "stellar customer service" doing it that way. (Speaking generally here, not about the PLM in particular, I can't see it's worth a trip.)

Now with added bokeh. (Good lenses are irrelevant, apparently. Just add bokeh and textures in post. It's the in thing.)

I bought the PLM because of the exact opposite reason, if i had a big enough studio i would of never bothered with it.

I have the 200cm octa from visico taking up maybe 1/4th of my space, was a **** to assemble, needs a heavy duty adapter to keep it from drifting or breaking the lights, and the lightstand needed permanent sandbagging.

Now i took it apart, stored it in its bag and have the plm sitting folded in the corner. Whenever i need it i just unfold it and slip it in the hole, done and done. Less then a minute, i left the umbrella rod for this exact reason, no fumbling. I made a few small mods to mine to be easy as hell to use, and i have a mod so that i can fold the PLM with a Cage mounted to it without problems. Makes it look like a Christmas tree but works wonders.

In conclusion, the entire appeal of the PLM is the compact size, light weight.

For anyone currently using a white PLM with the black outer cover, can you confirm if it is easy to fold up and store the unit with the cover on, or if you have to remove it every time?

Folds up just fine with the black outer cover in place.

+1

My only quirk is that the ends seem to come off sometimes, i plan on sticking in some sticky blue gum to keep all the ends nicely together.

To specify, both the black outer cover ends, and the normal white ends come off, sometimes leaving just the fiber rod looking at me naked and confused.
