Unfortunately due to my own stupidity I've got to do a full recapture of all my images in LR. The problem I will then face is deleting the rubbish.

My question is there any way of also deleting these images automatically from my back up drive so that I can free up some space and both the back up and main drive will be the same.

Hopefully I've explained what I want to achieve and any help much appreciated

Do you mean that you have lost the catalog and therefore have to import the images again? What rubbish will have to be deleted? Why not import only those images that you want to keep and delete the "rubbish" from Explorer/Finder without LR ever knowing of its existence?
Are you sure you have lost the catalog? What is backed up, the catalog or the image files? If you open a new catalog and reimport the images you will have lost any editing, keywording, rating, etc. that you did before. OTOH if you have backups of the catalog you can just copy the last one to your work drive and double-click it and you will be back in business.
You can't delete backup files that haven't been cataloged from within LR, but there are plenty of backup applications that will sync the two drives - i.e. delete from the backup drive (or a given folder) any files that aren't on the work drive.

Thanks for that - apologies for not making it clear. Originally I imported the pictures and used LR's automatic copy to facility to my back up drive. When I had a hard drive failure I wasn't unduly concerned as I knew I had a back up of all my images. It was when I went to reload the catalogue I discovered that my file structure on the main drive was totally different to LR's imported on ....

As I've now copied all the back up images to my main drive the file structures are now identical so I think I really need a recommendation for some software that will sync the two drives.

Thanks for your help it's much appreciated
