Well ...... since my panorama base turns as smooth as a baby's bottom, I'm not going to loosen the set screw. I'll leave things just the way they are, and hope that you guys will still invite me into the club ! :)

Wow... 5 Series AND Hasselblad. Must be nice...

Hmmm... now theres something to think about down the road, the Markins Q20 vs an RRS head, maybe the 55?

That's actually a Phase One in the photo. Although, he does use Hassy too. :)

And yes, I did use my set screw when I mounted the Q20. I turned it until it 'just touched', then gave it a squidge more pressure. I hope I didn't hurt anything.

I did the same thing with my Z1. If folks are worried about using set screws a small strap wrench is very workable too. The Sears one is very small and light (external link) and I use it with my travel rig as I take the ballhead off and pack the legs in checked luggage when I fly. The little Sears is perfect for ballheads.

I agree but I think after spending $1000 I will just stick to using my hands for now  I never take the ballhead off though.

I am also thinking of just buying a big luggage bag (probably around $150 or $200) and putting the whole thing inside it with my clothes when I go travelling so the clothes would protect the leg and head more. I really need a big luggage... I might really need it by November so I still have time to decide:D

Consider just packing the legs in your checked luggage. The ballhead comes off easily, is small and easily fits into your camera bag or your ladies' purse. If someone swiped the legs out of your luggage you would have a much smaller loss than losing everything...

I took out the bowl there is no markings on it. It is 3.5 inches in dia for external and 3 inches in dia for internal which relates to 75mm..

Quick snap from Iphone is attached

BAH! Well dang them for not marking it, but THANK YOU for doing that! Okay, Ill try out the leveling base. Im pretty sure its going to be the same 75mm ball adapter Im hoping it will be. Your measurements just made me feel more confident of that. Ill put the order in tonight when I get home and get my $100 Amazon gift card added to my account.

Order placed. Will be here Wednesday :)

FWIW I opted to go with just the bowl adapter. When I slept on it and thought more about it I figured the only time I would use the leveling base was when I wanted to do a pano. Otherwise I would use the ballhead and built in bubble level in the RRS lever clamp like I do with my other tripod. That being said, if I ever get into panos, Id rather buy back my RRS Pano Base with Nodal Arm setup, and using that setup I wouldnt need the leveling base still since the ballhead itself becomes the leveling base. I could also use the RRS Pano setup on both my tripods as opposed to using the leveling base only on the one.

So, either way, Im finally a Gitzo 3 series owner :)
