Ha ha, well you guys might be right, but I will go as far as to say that my GT1541T legs have never been in water. But I have used them in sand, mud, rock ocean and stream.

Yea in fresh water its not nearly as bad. You dont have to worry about the sea water drying on the legs either, which is def not recommended. But the SAND is what annoys me the most! It gets EVERYWHERE!

Yea thats the best way to do it. Provided you are somewhere there happens to be fresh water showers! Ive done a bit of hiking along the coast and it was use protectors or use your drinking water to clean your tripod legs afterwards. The latter wasnt going to happen.

Don't worry Ben, I like your leg cover idea. It's not so much about the afraid of getting it dirty thing, but more of the it's much easier and quicker than having to disassemble and clean. In fact I'll probably be asking you to send me a set of those soon. I just have been so busy with work I haven't even been shooting lately...

Exactly! THATS the real motivation for me to find ways to keep my gear clean! Having gear that looks brand new in the end is just a happy byproduct! Its kinda like the guys that believe GND filters are better than handling it in post. If you spend the money, get the filter use it on the shoot, then every image you capture through it is less time you have to spend post processing each later. Keeping my tripod legs covered is really my laziness coming out because I hate sitting there taking my tripod apart to get into every nook and cranny trying to clean it. And I would too, bc Im seriously anal.

I understand all that about taking care of your gear but, this is a tripod. :) So, which in the end would you save first when your tripod with camera is about to tip over in the water?

Ha if my gear is tipping over and looks like its heading into the water Im grabbing whatever part I can reach to try and keep as much of the whole rig as I can from going under! But yes, the top part with my lens and camera are the more expensive part and thus more important. But that doesnt mean my tripod is any less to me :)
