I am an avid hobbyist with lots of knowledge, just not time with my real job. I just had one of my coworkers who loves my prints in my office to shoot a special ceremony. He is getting married mid August and asked me to shoot his wedding. I told him I will shoot 2nd camera if he would like. I know I have the skill, but don't want to ruin his day without more practice. I shot 2nd at one other wedding.

My question is actually, He and His wife are Cambodian. His mom is have a traditional Cambodian Ceremony at her house a couple days before the wedding. He asked me to shoot that. I thought that would be awesome. They have a hired pro for the wedding it self. I told him I would do it to build up my portfolio, and honestly, I think it will be a really interesting thing to see. I love all cultures.

Anybody have any experience with this? What to expect? What to look out for? He said they do a tradition parade around the neighborhood, like they would do a parade around the village back in cambodia. People will line the street and have offerings (fruits, veggies, meats, cigarettes, etc) Then He will go to brides house (mothers house i guess?) and she meets him at door and she washes his feet and hands to wash away bad spirits. Then they go into house where there will be a monk doing the ceremony. Traditional Cambodian wardrobe. I am really moved he asked, and I am really excited. I know I will capture a wonderful event. Just looking for certain things to expect and look so I capture it.

Gear I will have.

I shot one a few years back. Expect lots of changes of clothes, lot of bright colors, people everywhere, and having to fight to get a spot to take photos from. The photo requirements can be quite formal, so make sure they run you through the day and tell you all the photos that are required.

See if you can borrow a spare camera and flash, just in case.
